It is amazing how time flies when you are kept oh so busy, and that’s exactly what I want to touch on in this edition of Luxury Insights: 

The experience of time…

01. INSIGHT

There can be an enormous difference between an actual duration of time and the experience of that time passing.

Let me give you a real life example:

You have just arrived at an iconic hotel after hours of traveling. You are eager to check in, unpack, and relax in your room, but there are numerous people in line ahead of you.

It takes 20 minutes to reach the front of the line, a duration that would likely feel immensely frustrating…if it weren’t for the welcome cocktail that is thoughtfully handed out while you wait, the concierge assistant who chats to you about your vacation plans, and the cleverly placed digital screens projecting endless ideas of exciting things to do during your stay.

Notice what happened there? 

The hotel realized the problem (the time it can take to check in) and, unable to hire more qualified staff to speed up the process, filled the time with welcome distractions, so the experience of that 20 minute wait became a wonderful one.

02. INSPIRATION

03. INTENTION

Are there instances in your business where the duration of time may seem excessively long to your clientele? (Do clients have to wait for a service to be completed, a product to be crafted, a shipment to be delivered, etc.?)

If so, what can you do to make the experience of that duration feel shorter, more enjoyable, and more worthwhile?

Remember, it’s not the actual time it takes but the experience of that time that is remembered.
